blocks of southern avenue remain closed. several police officers from d.c. and prince george's county here on the scene. just after 10:00 p.m. police received several 911 calls about a man walking through the oxon hill neighborhood firing at a -- firing a gun at everything in his way. the 800 block of southern avenue in southeast d.c., he ignored their demands and the man began firing at the prince george's county officers and they returned fire striking the gunman several times. >> neither of the two patrol officers were struck thankfully. they will be on routine administrative leave. >> as many of you know, southern avenue provides -- the shootout actually occurred in the d.c. side. prince george's county officers d.c. police have taken over the investigation we will do you

>> stories from around the world. at least 26 people are dead after a natural gas pipeline exploded near the mexico-u.s. border. dozens of other workers were hurt and authorities evacuate nearby homes as a precaution.

mexico's state owned oil company said it took 90 minutes to put out the blaze and the pipeline was shut off. no word on what sparked the fire. >> the ninth states temporarily closed its consulate in indonesia's third largest city because of ongoing protest. we have word now from france that because of a french publication satirical publishing of cartoons, the french have -- sent riot police because the cartoons ostensibly and so the profit mohammad and france plans to close schools and embassies in 20 countries as a response to this to try to prevent violence there. as far as indonesia, the third largest city, the consulate, the united states consulate closed because of ongoing protest over the anti-islam film. for the third straight day hundreds demonstrated outside the consulate. protesters want the united states to punish the people

behind the film. funeral services today from one of the four people who died in last week's attack at the consulate in benghazi, libya. the former navels sea seal. libyan authorities say they arrested several people in connection with the attack. inistration is responding to charges the consulate attack in the deal was premeditated. the why houseo back of libyan claims that it was claimed. the say it appears to have been sparked by an anti islam film. he talked about the attack with a late night host david letterman. >> the reality is the ambassador chris stevens, he was on the person who was first in libya and help to advise us and liberating libya from gaddafi the former dictator. so, this was a guy who was actually beloved by the vast majority of libyans. >> do you bogus files to find those responsible.

sweaters' tomorrow morning. one concern from the lingering storms, i just want to mention how frederick and carroll counties in maryland, of the river is cresting and there have been roads closed. because of that, we expected to be receding. super doppler showing just a couple of sprinkles over the bay. but starting to dry up. we will also be clearing up. you can see the storm front as it moves through. the clearing line just off to the west. the patient because it is coming. but we do have a fair amount of damage. all the blue dots are wind damage reports. about 34 reports of wind damage in the mid atlantic. nationwide about 115. they did do a little bit of a number. a few of you are waking up without power yet this morning but it is down significantly from yesterday. the live picture showing you it is kind of cloudy out there but comfortable as temperatures mostly in the 60's, a couple of

it will cost about $30,000 for metro to stay open late per night. councilman evans told our partners at wto be that they have not worked out who will foot the bill. whether the city or the team -- but we know other teams in town had already worked out a deal with metro to keep their doors open late should the teams go into extra innings after midnight when metro does close for its regular schedule. speaking of the playoffs, the nats announced tickets will go on sale this friday, so a couple of days away. the nationals about three wins out of the playoffs. assuming they win all three they would already clinched one of the coveted wild-card spots. if they win another 10 games, they will win in nl east division. this is something the team and the fans really want.

figure out exactly what to do next. people had trees toppled on top of their homes, and unfortunately it is a scene we have seen repeated in different districts across the region. the wind and rain came so fast -- knocking down power. we understand there are just about 1000 people left in the dark. the good news is they were able to get the power back on quickly and a number of the neighborhoods. a number of people setting after the summer we had, they are feeling very blessed, that it could have been much worse. >> somebody was looking out for me. i know who it is. >> we have just really been blessed. it could have been worse. >> take a look live at the house. you can see the blue tarp on the section of the roof. the residents are not able to be inside. the fire marshall deeming this house structurally not sound so they have to come back and look at what they can do. it could be weeks if not months before they can get back into

it happened overnight southern avenue in southeast d.c. john gonzalez live with what else was learned. >> several blocks of southern avenue remain closed and you can see a number of police officers from prince george's county and the the district are still here on the scene. just after 10:00 p.m. police received several 911 calls about a man walking through an oxon hill neighborhood firing a gun. apparently shooting at anything in his wife. when police arrived they confronted him at the 800 block of southern avenue ignoring their demands to drop the gun. police say the man began firing at the officers. they returned fire, striking the gunman several times. we understand he has undergone surgery at a hospital and is at critical -- in critical condition. those two prince george's county officers were not wounded. no one else was injured while this man was apparently shooting his gun in this neighborhood.

at this hour, we are told by police have taken over the investigation since the shootout between police and the gunman actually occurred on the d.c. side of southern avenue. they will be here several hours. they are hoping daylight will help with the investigation. john gonzalez, abc7 is. >> a catholic university student hospitalized after barricading himself on campus. police responded just after midnight. the spokesperson of the university says the student barricaded himself inside a room but at some point jumper fell off the fourth floor. he was conscious while being transported to the hospital. >> in the day ahead, a disciplinary hearing for an olympic swimming coach accused of sexually abusing a teenage summer. he was accused of molesting a girl when she was 13 years old and paid the girl and her family of hundred thousand
